Popcorn Kickoff Meetings

Is your unit selling popcorn? If not, why? This is one of the best fundraisers for Scouting. Trails End Popcorn is a quality brand with different types of popped and unpopped popcorn. Units who have participated with this program in prior years have Scouts who are able to attend Cub Resident Camp, Summer Camp, Philmont, or National Jamboree with little out-of pocket cash. ORDER OF THE ARROW
2013 SUMMER ORDEAL - Camp French

The second OA Ordeal for 2013 is at Camp French on August 16 (6 pm for registration) to August 18 (9:30 am).  Cost is $45 for Ordeal Candidates which includes sash, handbook, patch, 2013 dues, and meals.  For Brotherhood Candidates cost is $43 which includes the Brotherhood sash.  General Member cost is $27.  For those attending Saturday evening only cost if $15.  Please register online at www.lpcbsa.doubleknot.org or at your local Scout Office. All participants must provide the registration form and a BSA medical form Parts A & B whether they register online, at a Scout Office, or by mail. 

LATE FEE: A late fee of $10 will be assessed to all registrations after 8/12/2013.

ORDEAL CANDIDATES: In 2013 there are over 100 candidates for Ordeal membership in the Order of the Arrow. 54 of them went through the May Ordeal at Rancho Alegre. Each candidate should have received a packet of information during their District Camporee or immediately afterwards in the mail. There are two Ordeals each year. The first Ordeal was in May; the second and final Ordeal is this event at Camp French. Candidates must complete their Ordeal at one of these two events. During the Ordeal weekend, candidates will learn more about the Order of the Arrow through a series of trials and service. There is NO hazing allowed. Parents who have questions can contact Membership Advisor Wayne Rascati at 452-7828.

BROTHERHOOD CANDIDATES: Brotherhood is the second honor in the Order of the Arrow. Eligibility for Brotherhood: (1) 2013 dues must be paid; (2) It has been at least 10 months since your Ordeal; (3) a letter must be sent to the Lodge Secretary detailing how you wish to continue serving Scouting and the Lodge; and (4) Attend an Ordeal weekend and go on a meditative walk with a guide and other Brotherhood candidates. Special packets for Brotherhood candidates should go out about July 10.

ALL PARTICIPANTS: Registration may be made on-line at the Council website or by check to the Order of the Arrow, Los Padres Council, 4000 Modoc Road, Santa Barbara, CA 93110. A $10 late fee is assessed for any registration not received by August 12, 2013. Please remember that even though you registered on-line, you must bring with you the completed registration form and a COPY of your medical form. All participants will be performing acts of service on Saturday of the Ordeal. Please bring old clothing and footwear appropriate for trail work, painting, and brush clearance.

ELANGOMATS: Current members of the Order are requested to sign up as an Elangomat for the Ordeal. We will need at least 5 individuals to perform this very important task. If you wish to be an Elangomat, contact Lodge Chief Sean Howell.
