ORDER OF THE ARROW
2017 WINTER ORDEAL - Camp Joseph, Palos Verdes Peninsula

LATE FEE: A late fee of $10 will be assessed to all registrations after 11/29/17.

ORDEAL CANDIDATES: There are 49 remaining eligible candidates for Ordeal membership in the Order of the Arrow. Each candidate should have received a packet of information during their District Camporee or immediately afterwards in the mail. This is a follow-up on a special Ordeal opportunity.

Ordeal Candidate Fee for this event is $60 of which $50 goes to Ordeal expenses (OA Sash, OA Handbook, 1 Lodge Flap, Meals, etc.) and $10 goes toward payment of the 2018 Lodge dues.  Annual dues are normally $15, so candidates are saving $5.  

There are two Ordeals each year. The first Ordeal was in May; All Ordeals are held at our Council Scout Camp - Rancho Alegre. This is special ordeal being offered as we were forced to cancel our August Summer Ordeal following the fire that destroyed our Scout Camp.  We thank Malibu Lodge of West Los Angeles Council for making this a joint event Candidates must complete their Ordeal at one of these two events. During the Ordeal weekend, candidates will learn more about the Order of the Arrow through a series of trials and service. There is NO hazing allowed. BROTHERHOOD CANDIDATES: Brotherhood is the second honor in the Order of the Arrow. Eligibility for Brotherhood: (1) 2017 dues must be paid and 2018 dues must be paid before the event, at event registration, or at the Ordeal.; (2) It has been at least 10 months since your Ordeal; (3) a letter must be sent to the Lodge Secretary detailing how you wish to continue serving Scouting and the Lodge; and (4) Attend an Ordeal weekend and go on a meditative walk witha guide and other Brotherhood candidates. Fee remains $45 which covers meals and the Brotherhood Sash; this fee does NOT include the 2018 Lodge Dues.

GENERAL MEMBERS:  Fee is $35, and it does NOT include 2018 Lodge Dues.

PARENT MEAL:  There will be a meal for all participants prior to the 4:00 departure on Sunday. Parents or family members travelling to the event can preorder/prepay for a meal via this registration.  Cost is $15.

DEPARTURE TIME:  Attendees should stay on Saturday evening.  They can be picked up 4:00 PM, Sunday, at Camp Josepho.  As an organization within the Boy Scouts of America, we recognize the importance of a Scout's religious obligation.  For Catholic Scouts, we will research locations in that area that offer an evening Mass. 

HOST:  Our host for this event is Malibu Lodge of the West Los Angeles Council.  This Ordeal is scheduled to begin Saturday morning at 10:00 am for Los Padres Council Ordeal Candidates. The Ordeal will conclude by 4 pm on Sunday afternoon for our attendees.  Many of the local attendees will be Jewish Scouts of the Conservative sector of that religion as the December Ordeal is to allow those Scouts to fulfill their religious belief of not travelling via a vehicle before sundown on Saturday.  Meals will be Kosher prepared and cooked. They will be arriving later and staying longer If there is any questions about Kosher food and cooking, our Lodge Chief will be glad to respond.  If there are any special dietary or medical needs, please send an email to the Membership Adviser at chumash90@cox.net.

ALL PARTICIPANTS: Registration may be made on-line at the Council website or by check to the Order of the Arrow, Los Padres Council, 4000 Modoc Road, Santa Barbara, CA 93110. A $10 late fee is assessed for any registration not received by November 29, 2017. Please remember that even though you registered on-line, you must bring with you the completed registration form and a COPY of your medical form. All participants will be performing acts of service on Saturday of the Ordeal. Please bring old clothing and footwear appropriate for trail work, painting, and brush clearance.

ELANGOMATS: Current members of the Order are requested to sign up as an Elangomat for the Ordeal.The Host Lodge will be providing Elangomats, but if we do have any individuals attending who would volunteer, we will submit your name.
