**For Merit Badge Pow-Wows run by the Los Padres Council, organizers will make every attempt to notify Scoutmasters *before* the Pow-Wow begins, both that your Scouts have signed up for merit badge courses, and the names of the MBCs so that you can make the appropriate connections in advance. In some cases, both in our council and out-of-council, this communication may not occur (for example if the Scout signs up for merit badges on the day of the Pow-Wow or other merit badge course). In these cases, we do not wish to penalize a Scout for starting this process, but we also still need your approval prior to formally signing off on requirements. The Scout will be allowed to participate (at least through the first session if offered as a multi-day, multi-session activity).**
If you plan to use Blue Cards, you can provide approval for specific merit badges in advance, even if you would not know the name of the MBC at the time of approval. (This is no different than your approval of merit badges earned at a summer camp.) If the Scout would need to select a different merit badge, for example if a class was full or cancelled, then accommodations will be made and you should provide an approved blue card as soon as possible after the first session.
If using Scoutbook, the Scout should bring back to you the name of the Merit Badge Counselor, and their location (city and state where they live) if out-of-council, so that you can properly identify and invite them to connect with your Scout. Note that in our Council, the MBC or the person running the Pow-Wow will also likely try to contact you if this is not completed in a timely manner, and your help in providing this approval is greatly appreciated.
